2 Pick your bass drum size

This is the diameter of the drum, the same number printed on most bass drums (for example a "22" kick" takes a 22" head).

How to measure a bass drum head

Custom bass drum heads are sized by the drum's diameter, not the depth. The head size matches the number you already know your kick by, so a 22" bass drum takes a 22" head. If you are not sure, measure the front head straight across from the inside of one rim to the inside of the other, through the center, and round to the nearest inch.

  • Measure the head, not the shell. Go rim to rim across the drumhead surface.
  • Front (resonant) vs back (batter). Both heads on a bass drum are the same diameter, so either gives you the right number.
  • Common bass drum sizes: 18", 20", 22", and 24" are the most common; we print 16" up to 28" (and larger for marching).

Outfitting a marching line instead? Use the marching bass drum head builder, which handles 14" up to 32".
