A port hole lets you mike the kick from inside the drum and tightens the low end for a punchier, more controlled sound. Here are the four ways to finish that hole on your custom head, and what each one does.
A clean, cut hole in the front head. It lets you position a mic inside the drum and changes the low-end response for more attack and definition. Choose any size from 2" to 8" and drag it anywhere on the head in the designer. This is the right choice if you just want a hole and plan to mike the kick or vent it.
A thin, low-profile ring fitted around the hole on the back of the head. It protects the cut edge so the hole will not tear, stretch, or fray over time. Because it installs on the back, it is invisible from the front, the graphic still reads clean. Available for a 5" hole.
A two-part hard-plastic ring that snaps onto both sides of the head around the hole. It gives the port a clean, finished look and adds durability at the edge. Available in five colors and in 2", 4", 5", and 6". Pick the color in the designer and it shows on your mockup.
Add KickPorts for more low-end sound and punch. It increases attack and definition with improved feel and more power. Made of a hard plastic which protects the hole from damage and ripping. Available in a variety of colors. The KickPort is a fixed 6.25" acoustic port, so there is no size to choose, just the color.
